Chromeo - You’re So Gangsta

I don’t know what to say about this song other than it’s probably the best thing ever. Just having the song pop up when I’m shuffling through my ipod is enough to bring a smile to my face. This electro-funk-hip hop-house cut from their first album isn’t especially representative of Chromeo’s music, but it’s awesome nonetheless. Also, do yourself a favor and see these guys live—not only are they, in all likelihood, the two coolest guys on the planet, but they bring along tons of energy, a seizure-inducing light show, and tight musicianship.

The Hundred in the Hands - “Lovesick (Once Again)”

Sounds like: Nouveau electro-pop meets 60’s pop

From their eponymous debut, which has quite a few good songs on it.  You should check out “Young Aren’t Young” and “Killing It”.

Mini Viva — Left My Heart in Tokyo

Phew, it’s been a while since I’ve last posted. My good friend Johnny informed me that I was missing a bit of my vocal trance two-step, so he provided me with a song to fill in the void. Take a listen, it’s pretty damned up beat for a song with such a depressing title.

Kent — Gamla Ullevi

I woke up this morning and felt that I was due for a musical trip to Sweden (perhaps because iTunes Genius groups Swedish songs together .. grr). As such, it was easy to walk into the electropoppy arms of Kent and this great track off of their 2010 album En plats i solen (Wikipedia Translation:  A Place in the Sun). There’s just something so charming and exotic about Scandinavian voices that helps perk one up on yet another rainy day in the “city” that has only 50-60 sunny days a year.

Happy Friday!

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour — Inner City Blues

Nothing makes my day like a female vocalist singing the blues, even if purists would scream ‘faux!’ at the characterization of the genre of this song as blues. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour are a Danish (electro)pop group that standout because they feature a Saxophone, Trumpet and a lovely starlet of a lead vocalist, Mette Lindberg. By the way, you might remember them from their popular song Around the Bend, which was featured on an iPod touch commercial (see below!).

It’s almost Friday, people!

PS: Props to Jin for finding these guys

Marina and the Diamonds - Hollywood (Fenech-Soler Remix)

While I’ll be quick to admit that Hollywood is far from my favorite song on Marina’s debut album, The Family Jewels, I’ve never been one to shy away from remixes. Luckily for me, Fenech-Soler put out a pretty good, danceable remake of this song with plenty of bass and emphasis on the fact that “your mind is just like mine.. looking for the golden light.” Granted, the beginning of this remix is still kind of creepy; it feels like you’re about to be devoured by some trance artist’s nightmare. Hopefully, you can enjoy being “obsessed with the mess that is America,” while sipping on your liter of Jack and Coke with condoms and a 10-pack of CD-R discs handy (Aziz!). Err.. make that a gallon.

PS: Thanks to Lisa for the rec!

Fenech-Soler - Lies

Sounds like: Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head, Two Door Cinema Club, Elie Goulding

I hit up my Last.fm after a two-week hiatus to find a recommendation that I hadn’t seen before — Fenech-Soler. This band has been featured in Alex Metric remixed form in quite a few long dance mixes (I believe it’s on The Twelves’ Essential Mix), but for some reason I never downloaded the EP. They have some catchy, dancey tracks on their EP, so check them out.
