Chromeo - You’re So Gangsta

I don’t know what to say about this song other than it’s probably the best thing ever. Just having the song pop up when I’m shuffling through my ipod is enough to bring a smile to my face. This electro-funk-hip hop-house cut from their first album isn’t especially representative of Chromeo’s music, but it’s awesome nonetheless. Also, do yourself a favor and see these guys live—not only are they, in all likelihood, the two coolest guys on the planet, but they bring along tons of energy, a seizure-inducing light show, and tight musicianship.

Pollyn - “Long Way Up”

Sounds like: A dreamy Little Dragon

Vanish asked me today if I knew of any music that sounded like The XX. The best I could come up with was Little Dragon, because I think both bands are good to listen while having Chex. Yes, great breakfast music.

I found out about Pollyn, embarrasingly enough, from this thing. It is surprisingly a great way to find out about indie artists you really, really snoozed on. Yes, ladies and gents, my ear is to the ground, though certainly not the underground.

Nite Jewel - “Am I Real?”

Sounds like: Little Dragon. Really, really like Little Dragon.

Maximum Balloon - Tiger

New Dave Sitek! This track is the jam. From Dave’s upcoming solo album.

The Naked And Famous - “Young Blood

Sounds like: DOM meets The Sounds.

This is just one of those songs that I listened to once, and then immediately had to play again. Also, video is pretty awesome; they shot the whole thing during various sunsets and sunset is obviously the best time of the day.*

*If I could be a crepuscular being, I would be.

Francis and the Lights - “Top”

Sounds like: Electronic funk/soul Phil Collins.

Yo just s’more cool dancing and shoes, like Dakota’s post earlier*.

*Oh and to answer the obvious question, yes our Dakota is Dakota Fanning. After doing the Joan Jett movie, she decided she really wanted to make a contribution to music journalism**. Next thing ya know, her agent is talking to our HR lady and the rest is history. We’re really glad to have her on the CSoTD team.

**No, we’re not journalists, but the press has just been that bad*** on The Runaways and ‘Kotie just couldn’t do any better.

***Variety said “Kristin Stewart only stopped biting her lip to blow her lines”, (I can’t tell if thats a coke thing or a bad acting thing either) and that Dakota Fanning “looked like a middle America meth addict version of JonBenét Ramsey, and is as dead on the screen as JBR is off of it”.

Crystal Castles — Celestica

Tomorrow, April 17, 2010 is record store day so go out and visit your local record store, listen to some great live music and maybe buy some vinyls so you can continue to pretend you’re hipster. I certainly will be quite the power. My vinyl-hunt will probably include Tourist History, Gorilla Manor, Odd Blood, There is Love in You, Weathervanes and possibly the EP of today’s catchy song of the day. Crystal Castles released a great (psuedo?) EP for record store day entitled Celestica. This title track is pretty good, but I’m not 100% sure how I feel about it. Regardless, do try to enjoy it, even if its a rainy day like it is here in Ithaca.
