Local Natives - Warning Sign

Today was an interesting, warm Ithaca day — surprises are always abound on skirt days. Not to put in a shameless plug for one of my favorite local bands, but please become a fan of Blow! if you enjoyed their songs on CSoTD, for they’re in a contest to garner the largest number of fans to get a great concert opportunity. On a slightly breezy day (as today was), when the weathermen’s predictions of rain fizzled into the Cayuga, one would hope to find a soothing warm weather song. Yet at the same time, it’d also be nice to find a song that isn’t so lazy as to encourage laying in the grass all day (which, of course, is ideal, but highly unrealistic at Cornell). Enter: Local Natives.
I got this recommendation from my friend Johnny and as always I was absolutely blown away by his suggestion. Their album Gorilla Manor is a gem of an album; if I were to describe it, I’d say it’s some crazy mashup of Yeasayer, The Shins and perhaps Freelance Whales. If you enjoy indie rock with a unique lyrical flow and light riffs, this band is absolutely amazing. I listened to this album while awaiting rain with bated breath. Damned Weathermen (and women!).
Peace
