Bomb the Bass - Up the Mountain (Gui Boratto Remix)

In an interesting turn of events, we have a trance DJ remixing a late-80s tech house group resulting in … an almost pop-like song? I really guess that anything’s possible nowadays, from the remixes of Britney Spears by David Guetta to mixtapes by TV on the Radio, Wale and Aziz Ansari. The first time I heard this (thanks again, Lisa!), I was pretty sure that I’d hate it since it seemed so depressing. Yet, for some reason the chrous “Up the Mountain, left right, left right” reminded me of one of my favorite movies from last year, The Reader and I fell in love. Give this song a few listens before you toss in into the “been there, done that” pile — it’s definitely a song I can’t put down.

PS: The above picture is called The Opium Smoke of Romance. Since the hills and mountain of India are filled with opium, I associated the relatively dreary theme of this song with opium addiction; for in India and Nepal, you must climb up a mountain to pick the best poppies.
