Matt & Kim - “Good for Great”
I’m only 22 and I’m already giving eulogies. I’m too young for this, yet, the Matt and Kim we knew and loved are no longer with us. What the fuck happened with their new album? Every song sounds like a <insert pop-rap one-hit wonder here> beat with a reverb-heavy emo chorus and no verses. It’s still somehow catchy, but its bad more than it is anything else. Well, maybe besides overproduced. I hope Pitchfork loves this thing for some reason because I love to disagree with them, but they are going to rip this thing apart. I’m guessing a 2.8.
Matt and Kim’s previous two albums were intensely personal - just a synth and a pounding drum set. Two people with a shit ton of energy you couldn’t help from rubbing off on you with every listen. They were one of my favorite bands. I wish I could still say that.
