Oh Land — Wolf & I

I’m not precisely sure why this song by the lovely Oh Land has been on non-stop repeat, but it is certainly a lovely song. A former Danish Ballet Performer, Oh Land has been quite popular on Hype Machine and her self-titled EP is one of my favorite female vocalist EPs of 2011.
Enjoy!

FM feat. The Cataracs & Dev — Like a G6

Firstly, let’s be clear here, this is not exactly the type of song one would expect on this music blog. However, my cousins somehow convinced me on a whirlwind of a New Year’s week that this song actually is pretty good. And since it’s post-New Year, a time to finish partying and most importantly a time for us hungover truants at Catchy Song of the Day to get back to posting, I figured an in-your-face dance tune fits in purrfectly.
Hopefully your New Year’s celebrations were amazing and you were at least as fly as a Cessna!

PS: Best line in this song — “Sober girls around me be actin’ like they drunk!”

Rusko and Amber Coffman — Hold On (Sub Focus Remix)
Well, it’s been a while since I’ve posted and I duly apologize for the wait — work just got the better of me. I present you all with a drum and bass remix of a dubstep song that is pleasantly interesting if not mind-explosion-inducing. Hopefully your quiet Sunday is interrupted (politely!) by Rusko’s dub and Subfocus’s beats, as my Sunday has already been hijacked.
Enjoy!

Lykke Li - “Get Some”

I’m on a roll. This song was given to me by my friend who has better taste in music than me. Lykke Li is swedish. I went to Sweden once and it was awesome because everyone was blonde. We are taking over the world… wait and see.

Eskimo & Sons - “2012”
This EP - How Does It Feel To Be Crushed By One Man With The Strength Of A Million? - was released in 2007. Doesn’t look like Eskimo & Sons have done much before or since then, but the sparseness and simplicity of this song was enough to catch my ear. Give it a listen.

PS - This image was hung in the hallway of my childhood home in Alaska. Her name is “Lucy Beaver”. No joke.

CocoRosie - “Smokey Taboo”

This song just hypnotized me. CocoRosie is two sisters, Coco and Rosie, creating what’s been called “freak folk” by some. Whatever it is, I like it.
