Metronomy - “The Look”
Was about to post this myself when I saw Donald Glover did. Great song from a band with a great sound that I can’t wait to hear more of.
Radiohead — Weird Fishez (Amplive Trip-Hop Remix)
Have you ever felt like Radiohead was a bit bland? Ever wanted Thom Yorke’s sexy voice but instrumentals that are smoother and have a bit more panache? Well check out Amplive’s Rainydayz remixes of Radiohead because mixing trip-hop with the tippy-top of alternative rock never sounded better!
DJ Trademark — Dreaming of Silvia (Katy Perry and Miike Snow Mashup)
I’m going to have to admit that I never listened to Katy Perry until I heard this song, probably because I was afraid that someone would catch me. However, it turns out that I have some sort of secret addiction to her music, spurred by the discovery of this DJ Trademark mashup. Hence I unabashedly share this amazing song (as well as my addiction with you) — hopefully I won’t be alone in my pseudo-adoration of Katy Perry.
Childish Gambino — Freaks & Geeks (Star Slinger Remix)
Phew! It’s been a long time since our last post so I figured I’d stick with one of our favorite artists, Childish Gambino. The Star Slinger remix of Freaks and Geeks is a real treat — fast paced and emphasizes the most unique one-liner ever:
Beware this shit is potent // E.E. Cummin’ on her face — now that’s poetry in motion
I think the first few times I heard this song, I characterized it as “raw” but after a few more listens, I realized that it’s pretty damn polished. All it needed was a sick backing track, which is what this remix provides.
I forgot about this. Me and Ludwig made this during Thanksgiving. We spent a week in Brooklyn makin shit. It’s not mixed or mastered and I wrote/recorded this drunk, but yeah.
Chromeo - You’re So Gangsta
I don’t know what to say about this song other than it’s probably the best thing ever. Just having the song pop up when I’m shuffling through my ipod is enough to bring a smile to my face. This electro-funk-hip hop-house cut from their first album isn’t especially representative of Chromeo’s music, but it’s awesome nonetheless. Also, do yourself a favor and see these guys live—not only are they, in all likelihood, the two coolest guys on the planet, but they bring along tons of energy, a seizure-inducing light show, and tight musicianship.
Geographer — Kites
When I was a kid, I always dreamed of being a professional geographer, a person who could roam the world in order to know everything about natural landmarks. In this silly world of mine, I imagined that I could fly on a kite, overlooking fjords and Fords alike while letting the wind carry me along. Alas, pragmatism hit me at a slightly older age and this dream was dropped permanently. However, each year on Sankranthi (A South Indian harvest festival which is celebrated by flying kites), I am reminded of this dream. As I sit here in India getting ready to fly kites today, I “re-stumbled” upon one of my favorite finds of recent on Hype Machine, Geographer’s Kites which fit perfectly with the occasion. To those of you that still want to be Geographers, perhaps you can find some inspiration in a bit of holiday kite fighting and this song.
